EDPA's Future Leader Awards recognize young professionals making an impact in the industry. This year, Maddie Beaver, designer at Storylink Creative, was among the talented individuals selected for this distinction, part of which included a trip to Palm Springs, CA, for EDPA's annual Access conference. Here, she shares her thoughts on the experience, her leadership journey, and the insights she gained along the way.
A Meaningful Recognition
Being named a Future Leader is both humbling and inspiring for Maddie.
"Being recognized as a recipient of this year’s Future Leader’s class is a huge honor. To be surrounded by such accomplished leaders in the industry is both a humbling and inspiring experience. This award motivates me to continue pushing myself to grow as a leader and to empower both myself and those around me. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead and eager to contribute to the growth and success of the industry and the EDPA."

The Path to Leadership
Rather than one specific project, Maddie credits her overall leadership approach and active involvement for this achievement.
"I don’t believe there’s one specific project or initiative that led to this achievement, but rather my overall approach to leadership and active involvement. I’ve consistently challenged myself by taking the lead on various projects within my organization, while also seeking opportunities to contribute in other ways. One example is my role on the EDPA's Upper Midwest Chapter (UMEDPA) board, where we helped re-establish our local chapter. I’ve always strived to make an impact and contribute to the growth of both my organization and the industry."

Gaining New Skills and Perspectives
The Future Leaders program provided Maddie with valuable opportunities to grow both technically and personally.
"Participating in the development track provided me with the chance to attend a series of workshops and sessions where I gained practical technical skills relevant to my work as a creative, along with invaluable soft skills. I had the privilege of hearing from influential speakers who shared insights on leveraging networking for professional growth and overcoming internal barriers. These takeaways are not only strategies I’m eager to apply in my professional endeavors, but also practices I plan to incorporate into my everyday life."
The Impact of Networking and Leadership
For Maddie, one of the most rewarding aspects of the experience was connecting with other leaders.
"Networking with others has allowed me to understand the diverse career paths people take and how leadership has played a big role in their success. As someone early in my career, these conversations were especially valuable, as they’ve shown me that we all begin in similar places and face common challenges along the way."

Advice for Future Leaders
Maddie encourages next year’s Future Leaders to fully embrace the experience.
"My biggest piece of advice for next year’s Future Leaders is to be open to the experience and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. By always staying curious and asking tons of questions, you will make the most of your experience at Access!"
Maddie’s journey serves as an inspiration for other young professionals looking to make their mark. Her passion, dedication, and commitment to growth exemplify what it means to be a Future Leader.
