In-Line Inspiration

In-line exhibits get a bad rap, and somewhat deservedly so. The reality is that most of these small spaces are about as remarkable as stale bread. But these diminutive little booths can pay huge dividends with a dash of creativity, a few brand-appropriate flourishes, and a pinch of personality. And all those attributes were on display earlier this month in Anaheim, at Natural Products Expo West. So here are 20 of our favorites from NPEW 2025 to serve as inspiration for your next in-line design.

Back to Nature went back to the ‘60s with a retro surf-shop vibe and “Ride the Wave” photo opp. A gridded wall neatly fit 72 of the company’s packaged products, while an illuminated sign and some overhead lighting put its offerings in the best possible light.

In-line exhibits typically follow fairly predictable patterns, with straight lines and square angles. Carbe Diem broke the mold with this undulating bar-height counter and matching header, which supported circular light fixtures and capped off the neatly appointed cooking area.

This brand-appropriate booth for Every Man Jack merged a woodsy theme, an outdoor shower, and an unexpected triangular display to put the men’s personal care and grooming products in their natural habitat.

Never underestimate the power of lighting. Here, Daytrip used a little illumination to add dimension to its logo and tagline, while an undulating wave along the back wall added motion via color-chasing patterns of pink and purple.

Goodles added neon accents and light fixtures made from colanders to attract attention from passersby, who almost inevitably stopped to sample servings of its nutrient-packed pasta as they traversed the top of a reception desk courtesy of an embedded conveyor belt.

An elaborate custom booth can be great, but an appropriate and unexpected theme can be even better. This rough-around-the-edges exhibit asks guests if the “Need an Oil Change,” while bottles of almond oil, walnut oil, and other olive oil alternatives are displayed in industrial tool cabinets atop checkered flooring.

If you can’t bring your exhibit to the beach, bring the beach to your exhibit instead! While Health-Ade staffers served SunSip samples from the “Sipping Booth,” guests were invited to catch a wave at a stylized photo station complete with beachballs and a branded surfboard.

A clean, uncluttered space with faux-marble finishes created an up-leveled ambiance for Hiyo. But the star of this subdued show was the strategic use of lighting, which drew attention to the company’s logo, product displays, and sample bar.

This groovy little exhibit for Joolies promoted the company’s Organic Medjool Dates with a design inspired by “The Dating Game,” which debuted in 1965. Visitors could pop into Cupid’s Corner for a quick pic before sampling the company’s snacks.

Why design a cool booth when you can create an ice-cold one instead? Icelandic Global channeled the glacial source of its Icelandic H20 inside what felt more like an ice cave than an in-line exhibit.

A rainbow gradient with inset product displays makes this back wall as fabulous as it is functional. Meanwhile, a makeshift shower along the booth’s right side adds a touch of whimsy while referencing where Method’s products work their magic.

While color can be captivating, its absence can also prove alluring. Throught illustration and forced perspective, this black-and-white booth created a sense of depth and an achromatic aesthetic that made the products really pop.

Audiovisual installations are commonplace in larger exhibits, but in-line spaces rarely incorporate more than a flatscreen or two. But Liquid I.V. added some multimedia magic to its in-line exhibit, courtesy of LED tiles on the back wall and a pair of reception desks that bookended the glowing brand beacon.

North Coast Organic got graphic with its in-line exhibit, featuring big, bold copy; eye-catching apples; and faux-wood finishes. Collectively, the in-line design conjured orchards and autumn apple picking — a fitting context for its whole-pressed juices, ciders, and applesauce.

Simply getting attendees to stop at a show as phrenetic as NPEW can be half the battle. Vuum did the trick with a glossy, monochromatic, stop-sign-red structure and stainless-steel accents illuminated by embedded overhead lights.

This subtle and sophisticated in-line exhibit for Pop & Bottle features eye-catching product displays, a semi-private seating area, and a bright-white illuminated logo. A bouquet and trio of fluffy clouds further softened this space, making it feel less like a booth and more like a boutique.

Saturated colors, inset displays, and a smart use of integrated lighting had guests going nuts for this in-line exhibit. There, NPEW attendees enjoyed samples of Octonuts offerings, including almonds, cashews, and various nut butters.

Olivarez Honey Bees turned its exhibit into an adorable apothecary-inspired space. Backlit shelves put the brand’s offerings in the best possible light, while dozens of drawers provided a significant amount of storage space.
